Derek Crowther

Derek Crowther (born 1937) is a British oncologist and Professor Emeritus at the School of Medical Sciences, University of Manchester.

Early Life and Education

Crowther was born in 1937. He was educated at the University of Cambridge and studied medicine at St Bartholomew's Hospital, graduating in 1963.

Career

In 1973, Crowther became the first Professor of Medical Oncology at the Christie Cancer Centre, University of Manchester. He was the second professor of medical oncology in the UK, the first being Gordon Hamilton Fairley. Crowther retired in 1997.

During his career, Crowther served as chair of the Leukemia Research Fund Clinical Trials Advisory Panel and president of the Association of Cancer Physicians.

Honours

Crowther is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) and the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR). He is also a foundation scholar at Clare College, Cambridge.
