History[edit]

The Trust was established in 2006 following the merger of three separate NHS trusts: Northgate and Prudhoe NHS Trust, Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland Mental Health NHS Trust, and South of Tyne and Wearside Mental Health NHS Trust. This consolidation aimed to streamline services and improve the quality of care for patients with mental health needs and learning disabilities.

  • Children and Young People's Services: Specialized care for children and adolescents with mental health challenges, including early intervention and family support.
  • Learning Disability Services: Support for individuals with learning disabilities, focusing on enhancing quality of life and promoting independence.
  • Older People's Services: Tailored services for older adults, addressing issues such as dementia and depression.
  • Specialist Services: These include forensic mental health services, neuro-rehabilitation, and substance misuse services.

Facilities[edit]

The Trust operates several hospitals and community facilities, including:

These facilities are equipped to provide both inpatient and outpatient care, with a focus on creating a therapeutic environment for recovery.

Research and Innovation[edit]

The Trust is actively involved in research and innovation, collaborating with academic institutions such as Newcastle University and Northumbria University. Research areas include mental health interventions, neurodevelopmental disorders, and the use of technology in healthcare.

Governance[edit]

As an NHS foundation trust, it is governed by a Board of Directors and a Council of Governors. The Board is responsible for the strategic direction and operational management, while the Council represents the interests of the public, staff, and stakeholders.
