Coffee break (pronunciation: /ˈkɒfi breɪk/) is a short period of time, typically in the mid-morning or mid-afternoon, during which employees can take a break from their work and relax while drinking coffee.

The term "coffee break" originated in the United States in the early 20th century. The word "coffee" comes from the Arabic word qahwah, which was borrowed by the Turkish language as kahve, then by the Italian language as caffè, and finally by the English language as "coffee". The word "break" in this context means a pause or interruption in work or other activities.
