Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMUH) was a National Health Service (NHS) foundation trust that operated several hospitals in Manchester, England. It was established in 2009 and merged with the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust in 2017 to form the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
History[edit]
The Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was established in 2009, following the merger of Central Manchester and Manchester Children's University Hospitals NHS Trust and Manchester Royal Infirmary. The trust was responsible for running several hospitals in Manchester, including Manchester Royal Infirmary, Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Saint Mary's Hospital, and Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
In 2017, the trust merged with the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust to form the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. This merger was part of a wider plan to improve health and social care in Manchester.
Services[edit]
The trust provided a wide range of medical services, including emergency, surgery, maternity care, and pediatrics. It also offered specialist services such as cardiology, neurology, and ophthalmology.
Research and Education[edit]
The trust was associated with the University of Manchester and was a major centre for medical research and medical education. It was part of the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre, a partnership between the University of Manchester and six NHS trusts in Greater Manchester.
