Etymology
The term "Carprofen" is derived from its chemical name carboxy propyl fenylpropionic acid.
Usage
Carprofen is a NSAID that works by reducing hormones that cause pain and inflammation in the body. It is used to reduce pain and inflammation due to osteoarthritis and other joint diseases, as well as to reduce post-operative pain and inflammation associated with soft-tissue and orthopedic surgeries in dogs.
Side Effects
Like all NSAIDs, Carprofen can cause side effects. The most common side effects include vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, and lethargy. More serious side effects can include stomach ulcers, liver and kidney toxicity, and death.
