Carbon County, Utah
Carbon County, Utah is a county located in the eastern part of the state of Utah, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 20,412. The county seat and largest city is Price. The county was named for the extensive coal deposits found in the area.
History
Carbon County was established in 1894, carved out of Emery County. The discovery of coal in the region led to a boom in mining activities, which significantly influenced the county's development. The coal industry attracted a diverse workforce, including many immigrants from various countries, contributing to the county's cultural diversity.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,485 square miles (3,846 km²), of which 1,478 square miles (3,829 km²) is land and 7.0 square miles (18 km²) (0.5%) is water. The county is part of the Colorado Plateau and features a mix of rugged terrain, including mountains, valleys, and plateaus.

The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with smaller percentages of Native American, Asian, African American, and other races. The county also has a significant Hispanic population.
Economy
The economy of Carbon County has historically been dominated by the coal mining industry. However, in recent years, there has been a shift towards diversification, with growth in sectors such as healthcare, education, and retail. The presence of Utah State University Eastern in Price also contributes to the local economy.

Carbon County is served by the Carbon School District, which operates several elementary schools, a middle school, and Carbon High School. Higher education is provided by Utah State University Eastern, a regional campus of Utah State University.
