COBIT
COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies) is a framework created by ISACA for information technology (IT) management and IT governance. The framework is designed to help organizations develop, organize, and implement strategies around information management and governance.
History[edit]
COBIT was first released in 1996 and has since undergone several updates to address the evolving needs of IT governance and management. The most recent version, COBIT 2019, was released to provide more comprehensive and flexible guidance.
Framework Components[edit]
COBIT provides a comprehensive framework that assists enterprises in achieving their objectives for the governance and management of enterprise IT. The framework is divided into several components:
- Governance and Management Objectives
- Performance Management
- Design Factors
- Goals Cascade
- Implementation Guidance
Governance and Management Objectives[edit]
COBIT defines a set of governance and management objectives that are essential for the effective governance and management of enterprise IT. These objectives are categorized into five domains:
- Evaluate, Direct and Monitor (EDM)
- Align, Plan and Organize (APO)
- Build, Acquire and Implement (BAI)
- Deliver, Service and Support (DSS)
- Monitor, Evaluate and Assess (MEA)
Performance Management[edit]
COBIT includes a performance management system that helps organizations measure and manage the performance of their IT processes. This system uses maturity models, capability levels, and other metrics to assess performance.
Design Factors[edit]
Design factors are variables that influence the design of an enterprise's governance system and include factors such as enterprise strategy, goals, risk profile, and compliance requirements.
Goals Cascade[edit]
The goals cascade is a mechanism that translates stakeholder needs into specific, actionable, and customized enterprise goals, IT-related goals, and enabler goals.
Implementation Guidance[edit]
COBIT provides detailed guidance on how to implement the framework within an organization, including best practices, tools, and techniques.
Benefits[edit]
The COBIT framework offers several benefits to organizations, including:
- Improved alignment of IT with business goals
- Enhanced risk management
