Bridgehead Coffee is a Canadian coffeehouse chain based in Ottawa, Ontario. It is known for its commitment to fair trade and organic coffee. The company operates several locations across the city, offering a variety of coffee beverages, teas, and baked goods.

History

Bridgehead Coffee was founded in 1981 by two United Church ministers, George and Daphne Tidman, in Toronto, Ontario. The company was initially established as a non-profit organization to import and sell fair trade coffee from Nicaragua. In 1998, the company was purchased by Tracey Clark, who relocated the headquarters to Ottawa and transformed it into a for-profit business while maintaining its commitment to fair trade principles.

Products

Bridgehead Coffee offers a wide range of products, including:

  • Coffee: Sourced from fair trade and organic certified farms.
  • Tea: A selection of organic and fair trade teas.
  • Baked goods: Freshly baked pastries, cookies, and other treats.
  • Sandwiches and Salads: Made with locally sourced ingredients.

Fair Trade Commitment

Bridgehead Coffee is dedicated to supporting fair trade practices. This means that the company ensures that the farmers who grow their coffee are paid a fair price for their products. This commitment helps to promote sustainable farming practices and improve the quality of life for coffee farmers and their communities.

Locations

Bridgehead Coffee has multiple locations throughout Ottawa, including popular spots in Westboro, Glebe, and ByWard Market. Each location is designed to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for customers to enjoy their coffee and connect with others.

Community Involvement

Bridgehead Coffee is actively involved in the local community. The company supports various local initiatives and events, including environmental sustainability projects and community arts programs. They also collaborate with local artists to display their work in their coffeehouses.
