The Big 12 Conference is a collegiate athletic conference headquartered in Irving, Texas. The conference consists of ten full-member universities, primarily located in the Central United States. The Big 12 Conference is a member of the NCAA Division I, with its football teams competing in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).

History[edit]

The Big 12 Conference was established in 1994, following the merger of the Big Eight Conference and four members of the Southwest Conference. The conference began competition in the 1996-1997 academic year. The original members included Baylor University, Iowa State University, University of Kansas, Kansas State University, University of Missouri, University of Nebraska, University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, and Texas Tech University.

Championships[edit]

The Big 12 Conference holds annual championships in various sports. The football championship game was reinstated in 2017 after a six-year hiatus. The conference also hosts championships in basketball, baseball, and other sports.

The headquarters of the Big 12 Conference is located in Irving, Texas. The conference's commissioner is Brett Yormark, who has been in office since 2022.
