Biconvex

Biconvex (pronunciation: /baɪˈkɒnvɛks/), also known as double convex or lens-shaped, is a term used in various fields such as optics, geometry, and medicine to describe a shape that is convex on both sides. The term is derived from the Latin words "bi-", meaning "two", and "convexus", meaning "curved or arched".

In optics, a biconvex lens is a simple lens that forms a magnified, virtual image of an object. This type of lens is thicker in the middle than at the edges, causing light rays to converge as they pass through it.

In geometry, a biconvex shape is a convex set in which every line segment connecting two points in the set is entirely contained within the set. This includes shapes such as a circle or an ellipse.

In medicine, the term biconvex is often used to describe the shape of certain structures or regions, such as a biconvex disc in the spine or a biconvex mass in medical imaging.
