Early Life and Education[edit]

Reece was born in Butler, Tennessee, in Johnson County. He attended Watauga Academy and later graduated from Carson-Newman College in 1914. He pursued further studies at New York University and Harvard University.

Military Service[edit]

During World War I, Reece served in the United States Army as a captain in the 81st Division. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his bravery in combat.

During his tenure, he was known for his conservative views and strong opposition to the New Deal policies of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

In 1946, Reece was elected as the Chairman of the Republican National Committee, a position he held until 1948. He played a significant role in the 1946 midterm elections, which saw the Republicans gain control of both houses of Congress.
