The Australian Army is the principal land warfare force of Australia, a part of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) along with the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force. The Army is responsible for the defense of Australia and its national interests, as well as contributing to international peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts.
History
The Australian Army was officially formed on 1 March 1901, following the federation of Australia. It was initially composed of the various colonial military forces that existed prior to federation. The Army has participated in numerous conflicts, including the First World War, Second World War, Korean War, Vietnam War, and more recently, the War in Afghanistan and the Iraq War.
