Anthony Atala

Anthony Atala is a physician, scientist, and pioneer in the field of regenerative medicine. He is the director of the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine and the W.H. Boyce Professor and Chair of the Department of Urology at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Anthony Atala was born in Peru and later moved to the United States. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami and his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He completed his residency in urology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and his fellowship at the Harvard Medical School.
Career[edit]
Atala's work focuses on growing new human cells, tissues, and organs. He has been a leader in the development of 3D bioprinting technologies and has successfully implanted lab-grown organs into patients. His research has led to significant advancements in the treatment of kidney disease, bladder disease, and other conditions.
