A Scientist is a person who conducts scientific research to advance knowledge in an area of interest. The term scientist was coined by the theologian, philosopher, and historian of science William Whewell in 1833 to replace terms such as "cultivators of science" or "natural philosopher". This term was received with mixed feelings by the scientific community, with some embracing it and others rejecting it.

The term scientist was first coined by William Whewell in 1833 during a meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. The term was created to distinguish those who sought knowledge on nature, "science" from those who sought other forms of knowledge.

Roles and duties

Scientists are often academically trained in a scientific field, which can range from physics and chemistry to sociology and linguistics.
