The Anterior Ethmoidal Nerve is a branch of the Nasociliary nerve, which is itself a branch of the Ophthalmic nerve. It is responsible for the sensory innervation of the anterior and superior parts of the nasal cavity, as well as the skin of the nose.
Anatomy[edit]
The Anterior Ethmoidal Nerve arises from the Nasociliary nerve in the orbit, and passes through the ethmoid bone to reach the nasal cavity. It gives off several branches, including the internal nasal branches and the external nasal branch.
Function[edit]
The Anterior Ethmoidal Nerve carries sensory information from the anterior and superior parts of the nasal cavity, as well as the skin of the nose. This includes sensations of pain, temperature, and touch.
Clinical significance[edit]
Damage to the Anterior Ethmoidal Nerve can result in loss of sensation in the areas it innervates. This can occur as a result of trauma, surgery, or conditions such as sinusitis.
