Acrospiroma (pronounced: ak-roh-spy-roh-muh) is a rare type of sweat gland tumor that originates from the distal excretory duct.

Etymology

The term "Acrospiroma" is derived from the Greek words "akros" meaning "end" or "extreme", and "sphaira" meaning "sphere". This refers to the tumor's origin from the end portion of the sweat gland duct.

Definition

Acrospiroma is a benign neoplasm that arises from the terminal ductal portion of the sweat gland. It is also known as clear cell hidradenoma, nodular hidradenoma, and solid-cystic hidradenoma.

Symptoms

The most common symptom of Acrospiroma is the presence of a slow-growing, painless nodule on the skin. The nodule is usually solitary and can be found anywhere on the body, but it is most commonly found on the head, neck, and upper extremities.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis of Acrospiroma is typically made through a biopsy of the nodule. The biopsy is then examined under a microscope by a pathologist to confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment

Treatment for Acrospiroma typically involves surgical removal of the tumor. In some cases, radiation therapy may be used if the tumor cannot be completely removed surgically.

Prognosis

The prognosis for Acrospiroma is generally good, as the tumor is benign and does not typically spread to other parts of the body. However, recurrence may occur if the tumor is not completely removed.
