Abkhazia
Abkhazia (/æbˈkɑːziə, -ˈkæ-/; Abkhaz: Аҧсны, Apsny; Georgian: აფხაზეთი, Apkhazeti) is a de facto and partially recognized republic on the eastern coast of the Black Sea, south of the Greater Caucasus mountains, in northwestern Georgia.
Etymology
The name Abkhazia is of uncertain origin. Some scholars suggest a derivation from the ancient Greek term for the sea, while others propose a derivation from the Svan word ә/а-ҧхә which means "land".
