ANGPT2
ANGPT2
ANGPT2 or Angiopoietin-2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ANGPT2 gene. It is a member of the angiopoietin family and is particularly significant in the process of angiogenesis, the formation of blood vessels from pre-existing ones.
Function[edit]
ANGPT2 is a naturally occurring antagonist of ANGPT1 that inhibits the tyrosine kinase receptor TIE2. It disrupts the vascular remodeling process and may induce endothelial cell apoptosis. This protein is known to play a crucial role in regulating angiogenesis, particularly in the context of inflammatory responses and wound healing.
Clinical significance[edit]
Elevated levels of ANGPT2 have been associated with various diseases, including cancer, sepsis, and diabetes. It is believed to contribute to the progression of these diseases by promoting inflammation and vascular instability.
Research[edit]
Research into the role of ANGPT2 in disease progression is ongoing. It is hoped that a better understanding of this protein and its functions could lead to the development of new therapeutic strategies for treating a range of conditions.
