Melissa L. Gilliam
Melissa L. Gilliam is a distinguished American physician, researcher, and academic administrator. She is recognized for her significant contributions to the field of adolescent health, reproductive health, and health disparities.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Melissa L. Gilliam was born and raised in the United States. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Yale University, where she majored in English Literature. She then attended Harvard Medical School, earning her MD degree. Gilliam also holds a MPH degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Career[edit]
Gilliam began her career as a physician specializing in Obstetrics & Gynecology and Pediatrics. She has worked extensively in the field of adolescent health, focusing on reproductive health and health disparities.
In addition to her clinical work, Gilliam is a prolific researcher. Her research interests include contraception, adolescent pregnancy, and health disparities. She has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in these areas.
Gilliam has also held several leadership positions in academic medicine. She served as the Vice Provost for Academic Leadership, Advancement, and Diversity at the University of Chicago. In this role, she worked to promote diversity and inclusion in the academic community.
