Putylone, also known as bk-MBDP (beta-keto-methylbenzodioxolylpropylamine), is a synthetic cathinone belonging to the substituted cathinone class. It is chemically related to other synthetic cathinones such as methylone and butylone.
Chemical Structure and Properties[edit]
Putylone is a beta-keto analogue of methylenedioxyphenethylamine (MDMA), with the chemical formula C13H17NO3. It features a methylenedioxy ring attached to the phenethylamine core, with a propyl group at the nitrogen atom. The presence of the beta-keto group is characteristic of cathinones, distinguishing them from their phenethylamine counterparts.

Pharmacology[edit]
Putylone acts as a stimulant and empathogen, similar to other drugs in the cathinone class. It is believed to exert its effects primarily by increasing the levels of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine in the brain. This action is thought to occur through the inhibition of their reuptake and possibly by promoting their release.
Effects[edit]
The effects of putylone are reported to be similar to those of other synthetic cathinones, producing feelings of euphoria, increased energy, and enhanced sociability. Users may also experience increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, and other sympathomimetic effects. The empathogenic effects are akin to those of MDMA, although typically less pronounced.
Legal Status[edit]
The legal status of putylone varies by country. In many jurisdictions, it is classified as a controlled substance due to its structural similarity to other banned cathinones and its potential for abuse. In the United States, for example, it is considered a Schedule I substance under the Controlled Substances Act.
Safety and Toxicity[edit]
As with many synthetic cathinones, the safety profile of putylone is not well-established. There is limited research on its toxicity, but it is generally advised to exercise caution due to the potential for adverse effects and the lack of comprehensive studies on its long-term impact.
Related Compounds[edit]
Putylone is part of a broader class of synthetic cathinones, which includes:
