ChemSpider is a free-to-use, online chemical database owned by the Royal Society of Chemistry. It provides information about different chemicals, including their properties, structures, and CAS numbers.

Overview

ChemSpider was launched in March 2007 by a team of British chemists who wanted to create a one-stop resource for chemistry information. It was later acquired by the Royal Society of Chemistry in May 2009. The database contains over 67 million unique molecular entities sourced from over 500 data sources and continues to grow.

Features

ChemSpider offers a variety of features to its users. It allows users to search for chemicals by their properties, names, molecular formula, and CAS numbers. The database also provides links to relevant literature and patents, as well as safety data. Users can also contribute to the database by adding new data or correcting existing information.

Data Sources

ChemSpider aggregates data from over 500 sources, including:

Use in Research

ChemSpider is widely used in chemical research and education. It is a valuable resource for researchers looking for specific chemical information, and for educators who use it as a teaching tool in chemistry classes.
