Hair care
Hair care refers to the hygiene and cosmetology involving the hair on the human head. Hair care routines differ according to an individual's culture and the physical characteristics of one's hair. Hair may be colored, trimmed, shaved, plucked, or otherwise removed with treatments such as waxing, sugaring, and threading.
Hair care practices[edit]
Hair care involves the use of hair products and tools to clean, manage, treat and style human hair. Hair care practices include shampooing, conditioning, styling, and coloring.
Shampooing[edit]
Shampoo is a hair care product designed to clean the scalp and hair. Shampoos work by applying water and shampoo to the hair. The shampoo breaks the surface tension of the water, allowing the hair to become soaked. Shampoo is then rinsed from the hair, taking dirt and oil with it.
Conditioning[edit]
Conditioner is a hair care product that changes the texture and appearance of hair. Conditioner is often used after shampooing to replenish hair's moisture.
Styling[edit]
Hair styling involves the use of tools such as hair dryers, hair straighteners, curling irons, and hair brushes. Styling products such as gels, waxes, mousse, and hairsprays are also used to hold hairstyles in place.
Coloring[edit]
Hair coloring is the practice of changing the color of hair. The main reasons for this practice are cosmetic, such as covering gray hair, changing to a color regarded as more fashionable or desirable, and restoring the original hair color after it has been discolored by hairdressing processes or sun bleaching.
Hair care by hair type[edit]
Different hair types require different care routines. Hair types include straight, wavy, curly, and coily hair. Each hair type has its own unique set of challenges and requires specific hair care techniques and products.
