Shampoo

Shampoo (/ʃæmˈpuː/) is a hair care product, typically in the form of a viscous liquid, that is used for cleaning hair.

Etymology

The word "shampoo" entered the English language from India during the colonial era. It dates to 1762, and is derived from Hindi chāmpo (चाँपो [tʃãːpoː]), itself derived from the Sanskrit root chapayati (चपयति), which means to press, knead, or soothe.

Ingredients

Shampoos typically contain a mixture of ingredients like surfactants, which have the ability to surround oil particles on the hair surface, allowing them to be rinsed away. Other ingredients include co-surfactants, conditioning agents, preservatives, and special additives.

Types of Shampoo

There are various types of shampoos available in the market, each designed for a specific hair type or issue. Some of the common types include clarifying shampoo, volumizing shampoo, balancing shampoo, moisturizing shampoo, and medicated shampoo.
