Professional baseball team based in St. Louis, Missouri



The St. Louis Cardinals are a professional baseball team based in St. Louis, Missouri. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) Central division. The team was established in 1882 and has won 11 World Series championships, the second-most in MLB history, and 23 National League pennants.

History[edit]

The franchise was founded in 1882 as the St. Louis Brown Stockings and joined the American Association. In 1892, the team moved to the National League. The team was renamed the St. Louis Perfectos in 1899 before becoming the St. Louis Cardinals in 1900.

Ballpark[edit]

The Cardinals play their home games at Busch Stadium, which opened in 2006. The stadium is the third to bear the name Busch Stadium, with the previous two being located in the same area.

Achievements[edit]

The Cardinals have won 11 World Series titles, with their most recent championship coming in 2011. They have also won 23 National League pennants and 15 division titles. The team has made 4 wild card appearances.

Notable Players[edit]

Some of the most notable players in Cardinals history include Stan Musial, Bob Gibson, Ozzie Smith, and Albert Pujols. These players have made significant contributions to the team's success and have been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Rivalries[edit]

The Cardinals have a storied rivalry with the Chicago Cubs, known as the Cardinals–Cubs rivalry. This rivalry is one of the most famous in baseball and has been ongoing for over a century.

Management[edit]

The current owner of the Cardinals is William DeWitt Jr., and the team is managed by Oliver Marmol. The general manager is Michael Girsch, and the president of baseball operations is John Mozeliak.
