Lou Henry Hoover House

Lou Henry Hoover House is a historic house located on the Stanford University campus in Stanford, California. It was the residence of Herbert Hoover, the 31st President of the United States, and his wife, Lou Henry Hoover. The house is a significant example of early 20th-century residential architecture and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
History
The Lou Henry Hoover House was designed by the prominent architect Arthur B. Clark and completed in 1919. The house was commissioned by Herbert Hoover and his wife, Lou Henry Hoover, who were both alumni of Stanford University. The Hoovers lived in the house during the early years of their marriage and maintained it as their primary residence until Herbert Hoover's election as President in 1928.
Architecture
The house is an example of the Mission Revival architecture style, which was popular in California during the early 20th century. It features stucco walls, a red tile roof, and an open, airy floor plan. The design incorporates elements of both Spanish and Mediterranean architectural traditions, reflecting the Hoovers' appreciation for these styles.
Current Use
Today, the Lou Henry Hoover House serves as the official residence of the President of Stanford University. It is also used for various university functions and events. The house remains a symbol of the Hoovers' lasting legacy at Stanford and their contributions to the university and the nation.
