Caffè Nero was established in 1997 by Gerry Ford, an American entrepreneur. The first store opened on South Kensington's Old Brompton Road. The brand quickly expanded, and by 2000, it had 31 stores. In 2001, Caffè Nero was listed on the London Stock Exchange under the symbol "CFN". In 2007, the company was taken private by its founder and a group of investors.
