Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (武田薬品工業株式会社, Takeda Yakuhin Kōgyō Kabushiki-gaisha) is a multinational pharmaceutical company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. It is the largest pharmaceutical company in Asia and one of the top 20 largest pharmaceutical companies in the world by revenue.
History[edit]
Takeda was founded in 1781 by Chobei Takeda I, who began selling traditional Japanese and Chinese herbal medicines in Doshomachi, Osaka. The company was incorporated in 1925 and has since grown through various acquisitions and mergers, including the notable acquisition of Shire in 2019, which significantly expanded its global footprint and product portfolio.
Operations[edit]
Takeda operates in over 80 countries and regions, with a strong presence in the United States, Europe, and Asia. The company's research and development efforts are focused on four therapeutic areas: oncology, gastroenterology, neuroscience, and rare diseases. Takeda is also involved in the development of vaccines.
