Mount Sinai Hospital is a renowned hospital located in Manhattan, New York City. It is one of the oldest and largest teaching hospitals in the United States.

History

Mount Sinai Hospital was established in 1852 as the Jews' Hospital in the City of New York. In 1866, the hospital was renamed as Mount Sinai Hospital. The hospital has a rich history of medical breakthroughs and advancements, including the first successful cardiac catheterization in 1929 and the first kidney transplant in New York in 1950.

Facilities

Mount Sinai Hospital is a 1,134-bed tertiary-care teaching facility acclaimed internationally for excellence in clinical care. The hospital features specialized centers for cancer, heart disease, neuroscience, orthopedics, and transplantation. It also houses the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Affiliations

Mount Sinai Hospital is affiliated with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, which is one of the leading medical schools in the United States. The hospital is also a part of the Mount Sinai Health System, a nonprofit health system formed in September 2013.

Notable staff

Over the years, Mount Sinai Hospital has been home to many notable physicians and scientists, including Albert A. Michelson, the first American to win a Nobel Prize in science, and Burton J. Lee, the personal physician to President George H. W. Bush.
