Technetium Tc-99m Sestamibi Kit is a type of radiopharmaceutical kit used in nuclear medicine for the preparation of Technetium Tc-99m Sestamibi injection. The kit is used to produce a solution that is injected into the patient's body to help doctors see images of the heart and other organs.

Composition[edit]

The Technetium Tc-99m Sestamibi Kit contains a sterile, non-pyrogenic, lyophilized mixture of Copper (II) 2,9,16,23-tetra-tert-butyl-29H,31H-phthalocyanine (Copper Pht), Stannous chloride, and Sodium citrate. The kit is designed to be reconstituted with sterile Sodium pertechnetate Tc-99m injection.

Usage[edit]

The Technetium Tc-99m Sestamibi Kit is used in the detection of coronary artery disease by localizing myocardial ischemia (reversible defects) and infarction (non-reversible defects). It is also used in the assessment of left ventricular function in patients with suspected or known coronary artery disease. In addition, it is used for the localization of parathyroid adenomas and hyperplasia.

Procedure[edit]

The procedure involves the reconstitution of the kit with Sodium pertechnetate Tc-99m injection. The resulting solution is then injected into the patient's body. The Technetium Tc-99m Sestamibi accumulates in the myocardium (heart muscle) and parathyroid tissue, allowing these areas to be visualized using a gamma camera.

Side Effects[edit]

Like all medicines, the Technetium Tc-99m Sestamibi Kit can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Some of the reported side effects include allergic reactions, nausea, headache, and flushing.

Precautions[edit]

Before using the Technetium Tc-99m Sestamibi Kit, it is important to inform your doctor about your current list of medications, over the counter products, allergies, pre-existing diseases, and current health conditions. Some health conditions may make you more susceptible to the side effects of the drug.
