Broadway–Flushing, Queens

Broadway–Flushing, Queens is a neighborhood located in the northeastern part of Queens, New York City. It is part of Queens Community Board 7 and is bounded by 29th Avenue to the north, Northern Boulevard and Crocheron Avenue to the south, 155th Street to the west, and 172nd Streets to the east.

History[edit]

Broadway–Flushing was developed by the Rickert-Finlay Realty Company in the early 20th century, and many of the houses were built by the Grosvenor Atterbury firm. The neighborhood was planned on the model of an English rural village, with most houses built in the Tudor, Craftsman, Colonial Revival, and Mediterranean Revival styles.

Architecture[edit]

Broadway–Flushing is known for its large, detached single-family homes, many of which have been preserved since the turn of the 20th century. These homes are part of the Broadway–Flushing Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Transportation[edit]

Broadway–Flushing is served by the Long Island Rail Road's Port Washington Branch at the Broadway and Murray Hill stations. The neighborhood is also served by several New York City Bus routes.

Education[edit]

Broadway–Flushing is part of the New York City Department of Education's District 25. The neighborhood is home to several public and private schools, including P.S. 32 State Street School, P.S. 107 Thomas A. Dooley, and St. Andrew Avellino School.

Notable residents[edit]

Several notable individuals have resided in Broadway–Flushing, including Jazz musician Louis Armstrong, actress Mary Pickford, and former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani.
