Diphenylprolinol (also known as D2PM) is a stimulant drug that has been sold online as a designer drug. It is a derivative of amino acid proline and is structurally related to amphetamine and cathinone class drugs.

Chemistry

Diphenylprolinol is a synthetic compound of the amino acid proline. It is structurally related to amphetamine and cathinone class drugs. The compound is chiral, but only the (S)-enantiomer is active as a stimulant.

Pharmacology

Diphenylprolinol acts as a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI), blocking the reuptake of the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine into the presynaptic neuron, leading to an increase in the extracellular concentrations of these neurotransmitters and therefore an increase in neurotransmission.

Effects

The effects of diphenylprolinol are similar to other stimulant drugs such as amphetamine, methylphenidate, and cocaine. These can include increased alertness, euphoria, increased energy and motivation, increased sociability, and decreased appetite. However, it can also cause side effects such as anxiety, paranoia, restlessness, and insomnia.

Legal Status

In many countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, diphenylprolinol is a controlled substance due to its potential for abuse and addiction.
