Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is a public central university located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was established in 1916 by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya with the cooperation of Annie Besant. The university's main campus is spread over 1,300 acres and houses several institutes, faculties, and departments.
History
Banaras Hindu University was founded in 1916 by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, an Indian educationist and freedom fighter. The university was established with the aim of promoting the study of the Hindu Shastras and of Sanskrit literature, as well as to promote learning and research in arts and sciences.
Campus
The main campus of BHU is located in Varanasi, also known as Banaras, and is spread over 1,300 acres. The campus is home to several institutes, including the Institute of Medical Sciences, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, and Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development. The university also has a south campus, known as the Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, located in Barkachha, Mirzapur district.
