Lornoxicam

Lornoxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the oxicam class with analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic properties. It is available in oral and parenteral formulations.

Pharmacology

Lornoxicam is a potent inhibitor of prostaglandin biosynthesis, acting as a non-selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2). It has a relatively short elimination half-life for this class of drugs at approximately 3–5 hours.

Clinical use

Lornoxicam is used for the treatment of various types of pain, especially resulting from inflammatory diseases of the joints, osteoarthritis, surgery, sciatica, and other inflammations. It has a rapid onset of action and is available in various dosages and formulations.

Side effects

Like other NSAIDs, lornoxicam can cause various side effects, including gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, and perforations of the stomach or intestines. Other side effects can include dizziness, headache, itching, rash, and fluid retention.

Interactions

Lornoxicam can interact with other medications, including other NSAIDs, anticoagulants, and certain types of antidepressants. It should be used with caution in patients taking these medications.
