Riligustilide is a natural organic compound that is found in certain plants, including the Chinese herb Ligusticum chuanxiong. It is a member of the class of compounds known as phthalides, which are aromatic heterocyclic compounds containing a phthalide moiety.
Chemical Structure[edit]
Riligustilide has a chemical formula of C16H14O4 and a molecular weight of 270.28 g/mol. Its chemical structure consists of a benzene ring fused to a lactone ring, with two isopropyl groups attached to the benzene ring.
Biological Activity[edit]
Riligustilide has been found to have several biological activities. It has been reported to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and it may also have potential benefits for cardiovascular health. Some studies have suggested that it may have anti-cancer properties, although more research is needed in this area.
Sources[edit]
Riligustilide is found in the root of the Chinese herb Ligusticum chuanxiong, also known as Szechuan lovage. This herb has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years for its various health benefits.
Safety and Toxicity[edit]
The safety and toxicity of riligustilide are not well-studied. However, it is generally considered to be safe when used in moderation as part of a balanced diet. As with any supplement, it is recommended to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen.
