Cancer Research UK

Cancer Research UK is a cancer research and awareness charity in the United Kingdom, formed on 4 February 2002 by the merger of The Cancer Research Campaign and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. Its aim is to reduce the number of deaths from cancer. As the world's largest independent cancer research charity, it conducts research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

History

Cancer Research UK was formed as a result of the merger between The Cancer Research Campaign and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. The merger was officially completed on 4 February 2002, creating the largest independent cancer research charity globally.

Research

Cancer Research UK's research is intended to improve understanding of cancer and develop strategies for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure. The charity funds scientists, doctors, and nurses to help beat cancer sooner. It also provides cancer information to the public.

Fundraising

Cancer Research UK raises money from the public. Funds are raised through donations, legacies, community fundraising, events, retail and corporate partnerships. Over 40,000 people are regular volunteers.
