Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention and elimination of rabies in humans and animals worldwide. Established in 2007, GARC works with governments, health organizations, and communities to raise awareness about rabies, promote effective prevention strategies, and advocate for the implementation of sustainable rabies control programs.
History[edit]
GARC was founded in 2007 by a group of rabies experts who recognized the need for a coordinated global effort to control and prevent rabies. The organization was established with the goal of eliminating human deaths from canine rabies by 2030, a target set by the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
Mission and Goals[edit]
GARC's mission is to prevent human rabies deaths and reduce animal rabies through widespread awareness, advocacy, and program implementation. The organization aims to achieve its mission through a comprehensive approach that includes education, vaccination, policy development, and community engagement.

GARC has initiated several programs and campaigns to combat rabies globally. These include the World Rabies Day, the Rabies Educator Certificate (REC), and the Canine Rabies Blueprint.

The Rabies Educator Certificate (REC) is an online course designed to provide basic knowledge about rabies control and prevention to people who are involved in rabies control programs in their communities.
Canine Rabies Blueprint[edit]
The Canine Rabies Blueprint is a step-by-step guide for countries that want to set up cost-effective and sustainable rabies control programs.
Partnerships[edit]
GARC works in partnership with various international organizations, including the WHO, OIE, and FAO, to achieve its mission. It also collaborates with national governments, local communities, and other stakeholders to implement rabies control programs.
