Bernard Sanders (born September 8, 1941) is an American politician and activist who has served as the junior United States Senator from Vermont since 2007. Sanders is known for his progressive policies and his advocacy for democratic socialism. He has been a prominent figure in American politics, particularly noted for his campaigns for the Democratic Party nomination for President of the United States in 2016 and 2020.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Bernie Sanders was born in Brooklyn, New York City, to Jewish immigrant parents. He attended James Madison High School and later enrolled at Brooklyn College before transferring to the University of Chicago, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1964.
