Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) is a non-profit health care facility located in Karachi, Pakistan. It was established in 1985 by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of development agencies with mandates that include the environment, health, education, architecture, culture, microfinance, rural development, disaster reduction, the promotion of private-sector enterprise and the revitalisation of historic cities.

The Aga Khan University Hospital was inaugurated by Prince Karim Aga Khan, the 49th hereditary Imam (Spiritual Leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, in 1985. The hospital was established as part of the Aga Khan University (AKU), which was founded in 1983. The hospital and university are part of the Aga Khan Development Network, a group of private, international, non-denominational agencies working to improve living conditions and opportunities for people in specific regions of the developing world.
Facilities[edit]
The Aga Khan University Hospital is a 721-bed tertiary care hospital. It is the first hospital in Pakistan to be awarded the prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation for maintaining high healthcare standards. The hospital offers a wide range of services, including diagnostic services, medical and surgical treatment, and rehabilitation services.
Education and Research[edit]
The Aga Khan University Hospital is also a teaching hospital of the Aga Khan University's Medical College and School of Nursing and Midwifery. The hospital is involved in clinical, educational and research activities. It is committed to providing training opportunities for doctors, nurses and allied health professionals, and participates in clinical trials and other forms of health research.
