The Aga Khan University Hospital (pronunciation: Ah-gah Khan University Hospital) is a non-profit healthcare institution located in Karachi, Pakistan. It was established in 1985 by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of private, international, non-denominational agencies working to improve living conditions and opportunities for people in specific regions of the developing world.
Etymology
The hospital is named after its founder, Prince Shah Karim Al Hussaini, Aga Khan IV, the 49th and current Imam of the Nizari Ismaili Muslims. The term "Aga Khan" is an honorific title bestowed upon the Imam by the Persian emperor in 1885.
Services
The Aga Khan University Hospital offers a wide range of medical services, including diagnostic services, surgical procedures, and specialized care. It is also a teaching hospital associated with the Aga Khan University's Medical College and School of Nursing and Midwifery.
