The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis through grants, information and advocacy.

Etymology

The foundation is named after its founders, Christopher Reeve and Dana Reeve. Christopher Reeve was a well-known actor and activist, most famous for his role as Superman in the 1978 film. After a horse-riding accident in 1995 left him paralyzed, Reeve became a vocal advocate for people with spinal cord injuries. His wife, Dana Reeve, was an actress and singer who became a dedicated advocate for disability causes after her husband's accident.
