Albania (ăl-bā'nē-ə)

Albania (pronounced /ælˈbeɪniə/; Albanian: Shqipëri or Shqipëria), officially known as the Republic of Albania, is a country in Southeast Europe on the Adriatic and Ionian Sea within the Mediterranean Sea. It shares land borders with Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, North Macedonia to the east, and Greece to the south.

Etymology

The term Albania is the medieval Latin name of the country. It may be derived from the Illyrian tribe of Albani (Albanian: Albanoi) recorded by Ptolemy, the geographer and astronomer from Alexandria, who drafted a map in 150 AD which shows the city of Albanopolis located northeast of Durrës.

Health care in Albania is primarily provided by public health institutions, regulated by the Ministry of Health and financed by general taxation. The Constitution of Albania guarantees all citizens the right to health care.
