Health Policy (pronunciation: /hɛlθ pɒlɪsi/) refers to the decisions, plans, and actions undertaken by governments or health organizations to achieve specific health care goals within a society.

Etymology

The term "Health Policy" is derived from the combination of the words "health" and "policy". "Health" originates from the Old English word "hǣlþ", which means "wholeness, a being whole, sound or well". "Policy" comes from the French word "police", which means "civil administration".

Health Policy can be defined as the "decisions, plans, and actions that are undertaken to achieve specific health care goals within a society". It outlines the priorities and the expected roles of different groups; it is often legislated and it is usually in the public domain.
