Abuse

Abuse (/əˈbjuːs/), from the Latin word abusus meaning 'misuse', is a pattern of behavior used by one person to gain and maintain power and control over another.

Types of Abuse

There are several types of abuse, including but not limited to:

  • Physical abuse: This involves causing physical harm to another person. It can include hitting, punching, kicking, and other forms of violence.
  • Emotional abuse: This involves causing emotional harm to another person. It can include manipulation, gaslighting, and other forms of psychological harm.
  • Sexual abuse: This involves forcing another person into unwanted sexual activities. It can include rape, sexual assault, and other forms of sexual violence.
  • Financial abuse: This involves controlling a person's ability to acquire, use, and maintain financial resources.
  • Verbal abuse: This involves the use of words to cause harm to another person. It can include name-calling, belittling, and other forms of verbal harm.
