Zealand (pronunciation: /ˈziːlənd/), also known as Sjælland in Danish, is the largest and most populous island in Denmark. It is not to be confused with New Zealand, a country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean.
Etymology
The name "Zealand" is derived from the Old Norse Sjáland, which translates to "Sea Land" or "Land by the Sea". The exact origin of the name is unknown, but it is believed to have been used since the Viking Age.
