Zbigniew Religa (16 December 1938 – 8 March 2009) was a renowned Polish cardiac surgeon and politician. He is best known for performing the first successful heart transplant in Poland and for his contributions to the field of cardiac surgery.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Zbigniew Religa was born in Miedniewice, Poland. He pursued his medical education at the Medical University of Warsaw, where he graduated in 1963. Religa furthered his studies in cardiac surgery, training in both Poland and abroad, including a significant period in the United States.
Medical Career[edit]
Religa's medical career was marked by numerous achievements in the field of cardiac surgery. In 1985, he performed the first successful heart transplant in Poland at the Silesian Center for Heart Diseases in Zabrze.
