Weightlifting
Weightlifting (pronounced: /ˈweɪtˌlɪftɪŋ/) is a sport that involves the lifting of heavy weights in a prescribed manner. The term can also refer to the activity of lifting weights as part of a fitness or strength training regimen.
Etymology
The term "weightlifting" is derived from the English words "weight" and "lifting". The first known use of the term was in 1891.
