Water resources (pronunciation: /ˈwɔːtər rɪˈsɔːrsɪz/) are sources of water that are useful or potentially useful to humans. It is an important resource for various activities such as agriculture, industry, and domestic use.

Etymology

The term "water resources" is derived from the Middle English "water", from Old English "wæter", from Proto-Germanic "*watōr", and the Latin "res", meaning "thing" or "matter". The term "resource" comes from the Old French "resourdre", meaning "to rise again, recover".
