Wasatch County, Utah
Wasatch County is a county located in the U.S. state of Utah. As of the 2020 census, the population was 34,788. The county seat and largest city is Heber City. The county was established in 1862 and named for a Ute word meaning "mountain pass" or "low place in the high mountains."
Geography
Wasatch County is situated in the north-central part of Utah. It is bordered by Summit County to the north, Utah County to the west, Duchesne County to the east, and Salt Lake County to the northwest. The county covers an area of approximately 1,206 square miles, of which 1,176 square miles is land and 30 square miles is water.
The county is characterized by its mountainous terrain, including parts of the Uinta Mountains and the Wasatch Range. The Provo River flows through the county, providing water resources and recreational opportunities.
Demographics
As of the 2020 census, Wasatch County had a population of 34,788. The population density was about 29.6 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with smaller percentages of Hispanic or Latino, Native American, Asian American, and other racial groups.
Economy
The economy of Wasatch County is diverse, with significant contributions from agriculture, tourism, and recreation. The county is known for its outdoor recreational activities, including skiing, fishing, hiking, and boating. The Jordanelle Reservoir and Deer Creek Reservoir are popular destinations for water sports and fishing.
