Vintner

Vintner (/ˈvɪntnər/), also known as a wine merchant or winemaker, is a person involved in the production of wine, from the cultivation of grapes to the bottling and selling of wine.

Etymology

The term "vintner" is derived from the Old French word vintenor, which is a variant of vinetier (wine merchant). It was first used in the English language in the 14th century.

Role

A vintner's role can vary greatly depending on the size and type of winery. In smaller wineries, the vintner may be involved in all aspects of wine production, from tending to the vineyard to bottling and selling the wine. In larger wineries, the vintner may only be involved in one specific aspect of the production process, such as overseeing the fermentation process or managing the sales and distribution of the wine.
