University of Montana
The University of Montana (UM) is a public research university in Missoula, Montana. Founded in 1893, it is the flagship institution of the Montana University System and is the second largest university in the state. The university is known for its strong programs in forestry, wildlife biology, and creative writing.
History
The University of Montana was established in 1893 by the Montana Legislature. The first classes were held in 1895. The university has grown significantly since its founding, expanding its academic offerings and facilities.
Campus
The main campus of the University of Montana is located at the base of Mount Sentinel in Missoula. The campus features a mix of historic and modern buildings, including the Mansfield Library, the Payne Family Native American Center, and the Phyllis J. Washington Education Center.
